Ford hikes 2019 Ranger pricing

Raptor engine to cost $1200 extra; Wildtrak Bi-Turbo to top upgraded Ford Ranger line-up at $64K

Ford Australia has announced pricing for the upgraded 2019 Ford Ranger line-up and the bad news is the country’s second best selling new vehicle is now more expensive across the board.

On the flip side, Ford says extra equipment and its new five-year/unlimited-km warranty makes the popular one-tonner better value than before.

We covered the 2019 Ranger upgrades here, so we won’t bore you with all the price/spec details (see the full price list below), but there are a number of key take-outs.

Chief among them is a $1200 price premium for the Ranger’s new biturbo 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel that's borrowed from the Ranger Raptor and now optional in high-end XLT and Wildtrak models, which account for two-thirds of sales.

At the same time, pricing for the range-topping 2019 Ford Ranger Wildtrak 4x4 Double Cab increases by $1000 to $60,590 plus on-road costs.

Adding a six-speed automatic transmission ($2200) to the trusty 3.2-litre inline-five turbo-diesel brings the Wildtrak price to $62,790 plus ORCs).

Matched as standard with a 10-speed auto, the Wildtrak Bi-Turbo tops the all-diesel 2019 Ranger line-up at $63,990 plus ORCs.

Of course, that’s apart from the desert-storming Ranger Raptor ($74,990 plus ORCs).

At the other end of the range, entry pricing is up $300 to $27,990 plus ORCs for the base Ranger 4x2 XL Single Cab Chassis 2.2-litre Low Rider manual.

Entry pricing for the Ranger 4x4 – Australia’s most popular 4x4 pick-up in 2017 – now starts at $41,890 plus ORCs ($2800 more than before following the axing of the sub-$40K XL 2.2 Single Cab Chassis.

Also, Ford Australia is asking $1700 for the XLT Teck Pack comprising a host of new technologies that are now standard on MY19 Wildtrak models, including autonomous emergency braking (AEB), Semi Auto Active Park Assist and Traffic Sign Recognition.

Among other new options is leather trim for XLT models ($1650), SYNC 3 infotainment for XLS models ($1950, including 8.0-inch full-colour touch-screen, sat-nav, reversing camera, DAB+ radio and Emergency Assistance, plus also keyless entry/start and dual-zone climate control) and 18-inch black alloy wheels for XLT and Wildtrak ($500 and $650 respectively).

Apart from a mild cosmetic facelift and revised suspension, all 2019 Ranger pick-up models (not cab/chassis models) gain a new easy-lift tailgate and rear parking sensors.

In addition, new features for XLS models include front parking sensors, while 2019 XLT models score a new-look front-end with HID headlights and LED daytime running lights, keyless entry and push-button starting, and the Tech Pack and BiTurbo options.

The latter comes with idle-stop and matches the 3.2-litre diesel engine’s 3500kg towing capacity and 961kg payload. All Rangers come with a 3.5-tonne tow capacity except the Raptor and base 4x2 XL Low Rider (both 2500kg).

The top-shelf Wildtrak adds all of the above as standard (except the Bi-Turbo engine option) and also gains LED fog lights, restyled ebony cabin treatment with new decorative finishes, plus restyled all-black partial leather seat trim with heated front seats.

The Australian designed and developed 2019 Ford Ranger line-up comprises 25 variants across three body styles (Single, Super and Double Cab), three engines (118kW/385Nm 2.2L TDCi, 147kW/470Nm 3.2L TDCi and 157kW/500Nm 2.0L Bi-Turbo), three transmissions (six-speed manual, six-speed auto and 10-speed auto) and two drivetrains (4x2 and 4x4).

It’s available to order now ahead of first deliveries in September.
