Ford Ranger FX4 Max teased
Instagram post shows off Fox shocks as part of new 'Raptor-lite' packageThe ‘Raptor-lite’ Ford Ranger FX4 Max predicted by carsales has been previewed on an Instagram teaser video posted by Ford Australia.
While the video does not give the vehicle’s name, the equipment it highlights points very much to the forthcoming Ford Ranger FX4 Max.
The short video shows off the Fox shock absorber that is the key upgrade offered with the new US Ford Ranger’s Tremor off-road pack released this week (pictured in US XLT spec below).
The dual-cab 4x4 Tremor is understood to be closely related to the FX4 Max, a model name registered in Australia by Ford last December.
FX4 Max is understood to fill the gap between the standard Ford Ranger line-up and the award-winning Ford Ranger Raptor.
It joins the Raptor in featuring Fox suspension, although that truck gets more sophisticated nine-stage internal bypass shocks.
Other equipment briefly shown in the video (pictured below) includes distinctive powder-coated tubular side steps, a tow mount, black sports bar, tub liner, Raptor-style black alloy wheels, red bonnet decals and a bold 'FORD' grille.
The Instagram post caption reads: “Get ready. Something different is coming your way.”
That suggests the launch of the Ranger FX4 Max may only be hours or days away.
The Tremor pack features a lifted suspension including off-road tuned Fox 2.0 monotube dampers with rear piggyback reservoirs and hydraulic rebound stops, specially tuned front coil-over and rear leaf spring suspension, redesigned front knuckles and softened anti-roll bars.
Also part of the Tremor pack are 32-inch Continental General Grabber all-terrain tyres and a six-switch auxiliary power pack to manage accessories including winches, light bars and air compressors (as seen in Ford Australia's teaser video).
The Conti tyres are mounted on wheels that come straight from the Aussie-developed Ford Ranger Raptor and deliver the Ranger Tremor a 25mm wider stance than standard.
Other new features include those hoop-style side steps, two rear recovery hooks, a specific grille with black bars and red nostrils, optional graphics and seats exclusive to the Tremor package with Miko suede inserts and black interior accents.
The Ranger FX4 Max is the latest initiative from Ford in the ongoing Aussie ute wars.
It follows on closely from the Ford Ranger 4x4 XLT double-cab chassis, Ranger Raptor and Wildtrak upgrades and updates to the wider 4x4 Ranger range.
All this activity comes as Toyota releases an updated HiLux and Isuzu an all-new D-MAX.
