Genesis G70 to be priced from $58,000

Hyundai’s luxury arm names its price (sort of) for new sports sedan range

Luxury newcomer Genesis has revealed Australian pricing information for the new G70 sports sedan range, which is due to reach showrooms next month.

The mid-size luxury competitor will start between $58,000 and $61,000 plus on-road costs in Australia, a new online configurator reveals, extending to $80,000 (plus on-road costs).

That kind of money sees the Korean offering hover around similar territory as the Audi A4, BMW 3 Series and Mercedes-Benz C-Class that it will invariably compete against.

The Genesis G70 will be offered in six trim levels in Australia and two engine variants. Every example will shuffle drive to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic.

Entry 2.0T variants are powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder developing 180kW and 353Nm, while 3.3T models get a 272kW/510Nm 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 that also does duty in the Kia Stinger.

Keeping with remarks made by the car-maker last year, the G70 will be highly specified in Australia and largely devoid of options.

The range is anchored by the G70 2.0T, which will be priced between $58,000 and $61,000 (plus on-road costs) according to the configurator.

Standard features will comprise 18-inch alloy wheels with Continental tyres, genuine leather-appointed interior with quilting, aluminium trim inserts, an 8.0-inch touchscreen navigation system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a nine-speaker sound system and a wireless smartphone charging pad.

The only visible option for the entry car will be a $2000 panoramic sunroof.

Further up the food chain resides the G70 2.0T Sport ($62,000-$65,000). Its higher price tag brings 19-inch 'Sport' alloy wheels with dark grey finish, Michelin Pilot Sport4 tyres, Brembo high-performance brakes, a limited-slip differential, upgraded thermal cooling, dark chrome exterior accents, the choice of Sport Grey or Sport Red interior colourways, and more exterior paint options.

Occupying top rung for the four-cylinder line-up is the G70 2.0T Ultimate, priced between $68,000 and $71,000. It is differentiated by Adaptive Front-Lighting System (AFS), 16-way adjustable power driver's seat with two position memory, Nappa leather appointed interior with luxury quilting, ventilated front seats and heated rear outboard seats, Head-Up Display, Surround View 360-degree monitor and 15-speaker Harman premium audio system.

Entry into the V6 portfolio will start with the G70 3.3T Sport, priced between $71,000 and $74,000. The specifications list mirrors that of the 2.0T Sport, plus the bent-six.

Next in the V6 line-up is the G70 3.3T Ultimate ($78,000-$81,000). The added expense adds an adaptive front light system, 16-way power adjustment for the driver's seat with two-position memory, Nappa leather-appointed upholstery with quilting, ventilated front seats and heated outboard rear seats, a head-up display, a 360-degree surround camera system, along with a 15-speaker Lexicon by Harman premium audio system.

Finally, there's the G70 3.3T Ultimate Sport, which is set to be priced at the same $78,000-$81,000 mark as the regular Ultimate. The Ultimate Sport grade brings19-inch Sport alloy wheels with dark grey finish, dark chrome exterior trim, Sport Grey or Sport Red Nappa leather with sport quilting and more exterior paint options.

The Genesis G70 range is set to go on sale in Australia from late June following construction delays and the unexpected departure of the Korean manufacturer’s Australian boss.
