GENEVA MOTOR SHOW: Lexus UX compact SUV revealed

All-important Lexus UX baby SUV pictured against Melbourne skyline in first official image

The first official image of the Lexus UX compact SUV has gone live today.

The image shows the Japanese luxury car maker isn't straying too far from its NX and RX designs – at least at the front of the car.

The rear of the new BMW X2 and Audi Q2 rival was shown in a teaser image last week sporting a bold LED brake light design that spans the entire width of the car's boot.

The audacious rear-end can be seen again in this accompanying teaser video, along with the interior. Curiously, the city in the background of the computer-generated video and images is Melbourne.

The front-end has a more orthodox – for Lexus – design, essentially a miniaturised version of its bigger siblings.

The Lexus UX interior looks simple but elegant -- and yes, that's Melbourne city in the background!

The accompanying Lexus UX press release talks about the vehicle's "bold and stylish design that blends expressive bodywork with a compact size".

Lexus espouses the UX's "crossover credentials" via "exceptional body rigidity and a low center of gravity for exceptional handling".

There's no mention of powertrain options yet but, as we've previously reported, it's possible the Lexus UX will take the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol (85kW/185Nm) from the Toyota C-HR on which it's likely to be based.

Stay tuned for more details ahead of the Lexus UX's debut at the 2018 Geneva motor show on March 6.
