GFG STYLE Kangaroo concept revealed

Chinese-backed, Italian-designed, Aussie-influenced super SUV promises to tackle "any terrain"

What has a top-speed of 250km/h, accelerates to 100km/h faster than some supercars and has enough ground clearance to tackle challenging terrain?

The GFG STYLE Kangaroo concept, of course, and it will be revealed at the 2019 Geneva motor show in early March.

Before you get too excited about the resurrection of the Australian car manufacturing industry via newfangled battery-powered SUVs, the Kangaroo concept is a bespoke (and very niche) Italian creation.

A single image of the new Kangaroo design has been revealed, showing an assertive, aerodynamic style with a low roof and slim-line headlights.

The concept is completely different to the retro-styled Turin Garage Top Less ELETTRICA (pictured) the brand showed at the 2018 Paris show.

Despite being a go-anywhere SUV, GFG STYLE's latest concept has seats for only two occupants, which could limit its appeal among family buyers.

According to the short press release, the vehicle is "…an electric hyper-SUV" with four-wheel drive, four-wheel steering and two seats.

The brainchild of GFG STYLE, an automotive design house founded by Fabrizio Giugiaro and Giorgetto Giugiaro in 2016, the Kangaroo concept appears to have zero connections with the world's largest island continent.

It is possible the Kangaroo name may relate to a special suspension system that allows the vehicle to tackle tough terrain. In any case, Giugiaro says the concept will be driveable anywhere following its reveal.

"Currently we are only revealing the 'eyes' of this extraordinary concept that, as in our tradition, will be completely unveiled in Geneva and drivable after the show on any terrain."

The Kangaroo EV SUV design comes out of Italy but its underpinnings are donated by Chinese brand CH Auto. The electric vehicle platform is based on an aluminium spaceframe chassis while the body panels are made from carbon-fibre.

This exotic, fast, two-seat SUV with a cute name has piqued our interest, but what do you think? Will it end up simply as vapourware, a motor show curiosity and nothing more?
