GM Design previews baby Hummer

High-riding extreme off-roader set to share EV powertrain with GMC SUV and pick-up truck

General Motors has posted a sketch on its design division's Instagram page of what appears to be a baby GMC Hummer.

The sketch shows the all-electric 4x4 off-roader has a striking, rugged look, wraparound front and rear screens and styling loosely inspired by a futuristic take on a Hummer.

It also gets ultra-short overhangs, oversized wheels and a towering ride height to provide the maximum amount of ground clearance.

Sketched by chief Chevrolet designer Kyle Shin, the unnamed concept has a charging point between the front and rear door.

Other details include a solar roof that will be capable of running the air-con when parked, and may also assist with charging the battery.

Considerably smaller than the 2021 GMC Hummer, it's thought Shin's sketch is just one of a raft of rugged concepts for a baby Hummer that could see the brand relaunch as a pure-electric off-road brand in Europe and Australia.

Adding credibility, earlier this month GM Design posted yet another picture of a small 4x4 that's also believed to signpost that the US car-maker is secretly readying a Land Rover Defender alternative.

It's thought a concept vehicle could be revealed by GMC late this year or early next year that will provide a more accurate picture of just what pure-electric off-roader is in the works.
