Honda Australia has released a new genuine accessories range for the manic Honda Civic Type R hot hatch.
Available exclusively from Honda dealerships nationwide from October 1, ensuring local warranty cover and installation by qualified technicians, the range is sourced from the Japanese car-maker’s global parts catalogue and comprises six key components.
The headline act is a lighter new motorsport-inspired 20-inch forged alloy wheel that Honda says forms a clear link with the Civic Type R’s heritage, including the first Type R model officially brought to Australia in 1999 — the DC2 Integra Type R.
Although they’re the same diameter as the Type R’s standard wheels, the white-painted aluminium alloys with red centre cap are forged rather than cast, making them stronger and a significant 2.1kg lighter per wheel.
Improving handling and grip by reducing unsprung mass and improving suspension response, Honda says the ‘forging scraping process’ used to manufacture the wheels enables the sword-like spoke design similar to the wheels on the NSX-GT race car that competes in the SuperGT GT500 Series.
The only catch is that a set of four is priced at a cool $14,000.
There are also five separate bespoke carbon fibre components for the Honda Civic Type R, formed through the same autoclave moulding technique used by aerospace companies for high-quality aircraft manufacturing.
Top of the list is a carbon-fibre wing spoiler that replaces the most distinctive element of the hot Civic hatch.
Featuring a genuine carbon-fibre centre blade with a unique red integrated into the surface carbon layer, reflecting the Type R’s existing red accents, the new rear wing costs $2900.
Rounding out the new accessories range are carbon-fibre garnishes for the rear diffuser ($2000), mirror caps ($1300), door sills ($1600) and interior ($1700), all employing the same material specification and precision manufacturing as the wing spoiler.
The carbon-fibre interior package extends to the dashboard, door trims and side sill panels, along with a surround for the solid aluminium gear-shifter.
Honda Australia director Stephen Collins said the new Honda Civic Type R accessories will be imported to the Australian market in low volumes to ensure exclusivity and individuality for some of the brand’s most loyal customers.
“Simply put, there is no other Honda vehicle in the last decade that has been as passionately received in Australia as this latest Civic Type R,” he said.
“It is a truly exceptional vehicle and while the many accolades it has received tell us that story, the direct feedback we get from our customers tells us even more, which has reinforced our decision to bring these parts direct to Australia.
“We believe there is a niche market for bespoke, low-volume items that will appeal to motoring enthusiasts and it is very important for us to support these customers with the very best that Honda globally has to offer,” said Collins.
