Honda’s long-lamented two-seat roadster hasn’t been in production for over a decade, but a revival of the iconic Honda S2000 has been imagined – with all-electric power, of course.
Created by Estonian artist Rain Prisk, this render of a sleek electric Honda convertible is low-slung and sexy, but aside from a pair of doors and Honda badges, it doesn’t carry over much of the original S2000’s design.
It also looks slightly larger than the discontinued Honda S2000, which measured just over four metres in length and 1.75 metres wide.
What’s more, it lacks the very thing that purists loved about the baby Honda sports car – its screaming 2.0-litre four-cylinder VTEC engine. But that’s the point of this born-again roadster and other clever com-gens from Prisk, given any all-new sports car from the likes of Honda will likely be battery-powered.
Bringing the much-loved Honda S2000 into the modern-age, the digital rendering marks the first time we’ve seen the roadster imagined as an EV and we reckon its slimmer headlights, sharper panels and more curvaceous rump look great.
Production of the Japanese roadster lasted a decade and came to a halt in 2009, much to the dismay of its global cult following.
Since then, Honda has revealed no official plan to resurrect the S2000, despite the fact it displayed a modified ‘20th anniversary prototype’ version at the 2020 Tokyo Auto Salon.
Today, Honda sells just one fully-electric model in Japan and Europe – the Honda e hatchback – however, the car-maker’s local arm says there are no plans to introduce it Down Under at this stage.
