Hyundai i30 range tweaked

More engine and safety options for popular Hyundai i30 small car range

Hyundai has expanded the number of engines and safety options for its top-selling model, the Hyundai i30.

Chief among the changes is the availability of Hyundai’s SmartSense driver-assist safety suite across the Hyundai i30 line-up, including the recently introduced i30 Go entry-level model and the next-step Active variant.

However, it costs $1750 and is only available for automatic versions, meaning automatic emergency braking (AEB) and other important safety features remain unavailable on the cheapest i30 models.

Meantime, the 120kW 2.0-litre GDi petrol engine is now available with Elite and Premium models, which are fitted exclusively with a six-speed automatic transmission.

As well, there’s a new seven-speaker Infinity audio system upgrade for Premium and SR Premium models, and LED tail-lights for the Premium (previously only on SR).

There are no price changes at base level, with the i30 Go continuing to open the range at $19,990 plus on-road costs, but there are small price variations for other models (see below for details).

This includes the i30 Active, which increases from $20,950 to $21,090 plus ORCs, but in return gains a leather appointed steering wheel and gear shifter.

The SR Premium price rises by $500 to $34,490 plus ORCs, while the Premium diesel is $1500 pricier at $35,490 plus ORCs.

Optional in automatic Go and Active models and standard in all other i30s, the SmartSense Pack comprises AEB, Forward Collision Warning (FCW), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), Driver Attention Alert (DAA), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop & Go.

Also included is an Electronic Parking Brake (EPB), 4.2-inch TFT colour supervision cluster, rear cooling/heating vents, power-folding exterior mirrors with LED side repeaters and a chrome grille insert.
