Hyundai has revealed the Kona Electric with a claimed 470km of driving range, and there’s a strong likelihood it will be sold in Australia.
Little else has been revealed about Hyundai’s first fully electric SUV and its first battery-powered compact SUV, which was confirmed in this teaser image ahead of its digital reveal on February 27 and its world public debut at the Geneva motor show on March 6.
Hyundai Motor Company Australia’s general manager of external affairs Bill Thomas told motoring.com.au the Kona Electric is under serious consideration for local release.
“We’re reviewing it for the local market,” he said.
We understand the zero-emissions Kona is likely to get the green light for Australia, where it would join the upcoming IONIQ range of hybrid, plug-in hybrid and pure-electric hatchbacks, and the hydrogen fuel-cell powred NEXO SUV, which will also become available Down Under this year.
Hyundai has confirmed the Kona EV will be offered, one with a class-leading 470km of range, plus “a wide range of convenience and connectivity features as well as active safety and driving assistance technologies”.
Hyundai says it will be the first automotive brand to make an all-electric compact SUV available across Europe, where the Kona Electric goes on sale in mid-2018.
