Hyundai Palisade N revealed

Korea's Toyota Prado rival gets high-performance workover – bring on the V8 engine!

What got eight seats, seven USB ports, 16 cup-holders and can drag race a Toyota Supra?

The Hyundai Palisade N, that's what.

Originally expected to arrive in Australian showrooms by late 2020 (likely pushed out to 2021 due to COVD-19), the regular Hyundai Palisade on which this monster is based is a big eight-seater Toyota Prado competitor that now gets seriously butch visuals thanks to the large SUV's go-fast 'N' division treatment.

With hunkered-down optics thanks to bigger wheels and a tidy body kit complete with roof spoiler, the official Hyundai Palisade N rendering is a preview of what could happen if the brand pushes ahead with a sporty N version of its biggest SUV.

Imagine if this was powered by a 270kW twin-turbo V6?

Although it's only a flight of fancy at this stage, you can bet your bottom dollar there are several execs within the company who want to the take concept further.

"It's April Fool's Day, but instead of jokes we're sharing fun ideas," said Hyundai on Instagram, where it revealed the tough-looking troop carrier.

"What do you think of a #Palisade N model? (We might be spending too much time at home..)

"Just as we hope these fake N models make you smile, we hope everyone can get through this #SafeAtHome."

How about a Toyota GR Prado to take on the Hyundai Palisade N?

In the USA, the Hyundai Palisade is currently propelled by a 3.8-litre petrol V6 (220kW/355Nm) pumping through an eight-speed automatic transmission.

When it comes to Australia the Palisade eight-seater is tipped to be offered with a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel (147kW/440Nm), but the Hyundai Palisade N would need more firepower.

The 3.3-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 (272kW/510Nm) from the Genesis G70 would do nicely, but while we're in fantasy land why not add a rumbling V8 or perhaps the brand's 5.0-litre Tau bent eight (320kW/510Nm)?

As well as ower, sportier suspension tune, the Hyundai Palisade N render reveals big Brembo brakes and a high-performance wheel and tyre package.

There are no interior shots, but bucket seats up front are a given, as is a flat-bottom steering wheel and variable exhaust settings to work with bold quad exhaust outlets.

Hyundai Prophecy N is a Korean Audi TT rival with electric power

Hyundai also released two other high-performance N division renderings based on a couple of zero-emission specials.

The Hyundai Nexo N hydrogen fuel-cell electric vehicle (FCEV) and Hyundai Prophecy N electric vehicle (EV) concepts get the same paint scheme and sporty body kits.

The next real-world scorcher from Hyundai's high-performance division is expected to be the Hyundai Kona N, which was spied recently. There are reports that the next-gen Hyundai Tucson will get the N treatment as well.

Further down the track, the Hyundai i30 N will get hybrid boosting in its next generation.
