Every new Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) model will be available with a mild-hybrid, full-hybrid or full, pure-electric powertrain by 2020.
Making the announcement at the company's TechFest event in London overnight, Dr Ralf Speth, JLR CEO, said the decision was made with an aim of "giving customers more choice".
JLR's new direction will see all future models introduced with 48-volt mild-hybrid, full-hybrid and all-pure-electric powertrains.
An insider, speaking to motoring.com.au, said all of them will be offered to Australian buyers only "a matter of months" after they are introduced to European markets.
Existing models will also be soon offered with new hybridised powertrains, with the XF and F-PACE expected to come with electrified petrol and diesel engines towards the end of their model life.
JLR's news follows a similar announcement from Volvo, the Swedish company claiming every car it sells post 2019 will be offered with a level of electrification on all models.
The move to electrification is seen as a reaction by JLR to lower its emissions across the board as it joins other automotive brands in moving away from diesel post the Volkswagen Group Dieselgate emissions crisis.
JLR has not revealed which specific powertrains will be introduced, but some are tipping the mild-hybrid powertrain will be a derivative of the Concept_e MHEV that combined a small 66kW diesel engine with a 48V electrical system and a 15kW crank-driven electric motor.
Spearheading the drive towards electrification will be the I-PACE that goes on sale in 2018 and will be offered in Australia.
