The long-awaited Kia Niro EV has arrived in Australia, sitting at the top of a small SUV range also comprising hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants.
Kia Australia has anticipated the introduction of the Niro in Australia for years, and after strong global demand has finally released an updated model that features revised styling.
Powering the Kia Niro EV is a 64kWh lithium-ion polymer battery supplying charge to an electric motor producing peak power and torque of 150kW and 395Nm, respectively. These numbers are identical to the stats for the slightly smaller Hyundai Kona Electric, which has been on sale in Australia for three years.
The Kia Niro EV will travel up to 455km on a full battery charge and is available in two trim levels – S and Sport – but with a starting price of $62,590 will it tempt buyers away from its Hyundai rival (and the Nissan LEAF e+)?
