Kia XCeed digital instrument panel previewed

Korean car-maker's take on Audi's virtual cockpit set to launch on XCeed crossover but migrate to all Kias

Another teasing image has been released of the forthcoming Kia XCeed crossover ahead of its June 26 launch and this time it involves a pic of its digital instrument cluster.

Set to be the first model in its line-up to offer a full virtual instrument panel, the Kia XCeed's 12.3-inch display is set to one day be offered on every Kia sold.

Featuring a high-resolution 1920x720 pixel display, Kia's 'Supervision' cluster, like its rivals, is said to be customisable to allow owners to prioritise sat-nav instructions, audio or phone info, the car's trip computer or simply the XCeed's classic two-dial set-up.

Set to be an option of the XCeed, Kia Australia has still to confirm whether or not the small Ford Focus Active, that gets rakish, more coupe-like rear styling, is destined to arrive Down Under.

Created to bridge the gap between the smaller Stonic and larger Sportage SUV, the XCeed is closely related to the Ceed available in Europe.

Question marks hang over its viability in a crowded SUV segment after the Kia announced that the newly named Steltos SUV was confirmed for our market that could squeeze out the room the XCeed was supposed to inhabit.

If it does make it here, it's thought the front-drive jacked-up hatch, that shares a platform with the current Hyundai i30, will be offered with either a 150kW/265Nm turbo 1.6-litre four-cylinder or a 112kW/192Nm 2.0-litre.

It's thought a decision on its future in Australia will be made following the XCeed's global reveal on June 26.
