Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 gets mega V12

Driven by the most powerful V12 engine ever constructed by the Italian supercar brand, the limited-edition Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 is a car for thrill-seekers only.
Finally revealed after months of teasing, the fire-breathing Lambo will deliver breathtaking performance but is not as radical looking as some low-volume models, for example the Lamborghini Veneno.
But it is rare.
Just 40 Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 hypercars will be built, each powered by a 620kW (830hp) V12 -- the Raging Bull's most potent 12-cylinder donk ever.
Lambo has not revealed engine specs or displacement -- nor torque levels or pricing -- for the Essenza, but insists the 40 well-heeled customers who take the plunge won’t be disappointed with its performance.
Automobili Lamborghini CEO, Stefano Domenicali, declared the Essenza SCV12 is now “…the purest track driving experience that our brand can offer, an engineering feat that highlights the inextricable link between our cars and the asphalt of the track.”
The racetrack-only machine follows in the footsteps of vehicles like the Lamborghini Diablo GTR and Miura Jota, and shunts its 600kW-plus power to the rear wheels via an X-trac sequential six-speed gearbox.
The high-revving 12-cylinder soundtrack is amplified thanks to its Capristo exhaust system.
Like legitimate race cars, the transmission is a stressed structural part of the chassis to improve packaging and torsional rigidity, while also being the mounting place for the rear pushrod suspension.
Along with the sort of aerodynamic bodywork you’d expect on a GT3 race car, the Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 employs ram-air effect to deliver a "significant power uplift" at high speeds, says Lambo.
Fitted with a big front splitter, bonnet air intakes, a roof scoop, massive vertical fins on the side skirts, plus a giant double-profile rear wing and the biggest rear diffuser outside the aerospace industry.
Lamborghini reckons the bodywork generates more downforce than a GT3 race car -- a claimed 1200kg at 250km/h.
And get this – it doesn’t even require an internal roll cage to meet FIA prototype safety regulations because its cutting-edge carbon-fibre chassis creates a super high strength shell.
Lamborghini’s chief technical officer, Maurizio Reggiani, said the Essenza SCV12 is “…a project in which we combined the pursuit of engineering perfection with refined aerodynamics, futuristic design, and innovative solutions such as the carbon monocoque without internal roll cage”.
Despite all the motorsport goodness squeezed into the angular Italian stallion, Lambo’s design boss Mitja Borkert said the Lamborghini Essenza’s style is “…different but at the same time unmistakably Lamborghini”.
He labelled the new car’s visuals as “…extreme but stylistically very clean, as a real racing car should be”.
The 40 lucky Essenza SCV12 owners will become members of a very exclusive club that organises pretty much everything involved in owning and driving a rare hypercar, including track sessions at the world’s most famous circuits.
Ownership of the Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 includes a storage service within a new hangar at Sant’Agata, Bologna, complete with a personalised garage and ‘dedicated services’ including webcams that monitor the cars 24/7 and are accessible via a smartphone app.
