Lamborghini Huracan STO leaked

Aggressive aero design for track weapon confirmed as reports suggest VW is studying Lambo sell-off

The 2021 Lamborghini Huracan STO has been leaked by a UK Lamborghini dealer franchise via Instagram with the tag-line: “You saw it here first.”

Based on the image of the partially revealed car, the Huracan STO (Super Trofeo Omologato) is confirmed as carrying a host of aggressive aero features including a massive rear wing, a big roof vent to channel air into the mid-mounted engine bay, twin bonnet vents, a low front splitter and pumped wheel-arches.

Earlier camouflaged photos show a larger rear diffuser.

The STO will be officially revealed overnight and is understood to be a rear-drive track weapon using a version of the Italian supercar marque’s 5.2-litre V10 engine that in the Huracan Evo and Performante blasts out 470kW/600Nm.

Given the extra aero and an expected lighter weight, the STO should be genuine chance to steal the latest production car Nurburgring lap record recently set by the Mercedes-AMG GT Black Series.

The Lamborghini Huracan Performante coupe is currently priced at $483,866 plus on-road costs, so expect the STO to dive deep into the $500,000 zone.

Despite the auto world’s attention on its new products, Lamborghini’s future could be set to go through a state of flux as reports from Europe indicate parent company Volkswagen Group is considering selling off the exotic car brand.

According to

, Volkswagen Group chief Herbert Diess told analysts this week that the company could divest itself of its Italian assets, which include Lamborghini, Ducati and Italdesign.

We can't wait to see what's really under the covers

“We are working on our Italian legal structure,” Diess reportedly said.

“Brands must be measured against new requirements. By electrification, by reach, by digitalisation and connectivity of the vehicle. There is new room for manoeuvre and every brand must find its new place.”

And if that wasn’t enough, current Lamborghini CEO Stefano Domenicali is allegedly set to hand back the reins to his predecessor, Stephan Winkelmann.

reports that Winkelmann will retain his position as Bugatti boss while taking back responsibility at Lamborghini.
