Chinese brand LDV joined the burgeoning Light Commercial Vehicle race in 2012. The company's latest offering is the LDV T60, available as a single cab-chassis or dual cab ute across two models.
The entry point to the LDV T60 range is the four-wheel drive, six-speed manual transmission T60 single cab-chassis, at a driveaway price of $28,411 ($26,990 for ABN holders) and including the following standard features.
• Air conditioning
• Cruise control
• Dusk sensing LED headlights
• Rain-sensing wipers
• 16-inch alloy wheels
• Three-tonne (braked) towing capacity
• Five-Star ANCAP safety rating
Premium paint adds $500 to the bottom line but is only available on the dual cab ute.
Six airbags, traction and stability control systems, tyre pressure monitoring and anti-lock brakes all come standard across the range. Hill start and descent assist, roll movement intervention and electronic brake assist technologies are also standard. Other features include drive fatigue monitoring and attention assist, daytime running lights, fog lights and adaptive front lighting, which brightens the inside of corners as you turn.
Move up to the T60 Pro dual cab ute to add blind spot monitoring, ISOFIX child seat anchor points, LED daytime running lights, rear parking sensors and a reversing camera. But if you also desire a 360-degree camera, keyless entry and start, plus an on-demand rear diff lock, tick the box for the range topping T60 Luxe.
Being primarily a workhorse, the cab-chassis makes do with a radio, Bluetooth and MP3 connectivity. The T60 Pro and Luxe dual cab utes share the same six-speaker audio stereo radio, Bluetooth and connectivity MP3 system access along with a 10-inch infotainment touch screen, smart phone connectivity and the handiness of two USB ports.
The cab-chassis has a height adjustable steering column, air-conditioning and to make long journeys easier, cruise control. Both cloth-trimmed front seats are manually adjustable; six ways for the driver and four for the passenger.
Step up to the T60 Pro and you get a multi-function steering wheel to hold while seated on your six-way, manually adjustable cloth-covered seat, enjoying the comfort of a manually air-conditioned cabin. Like the cab chassis, the front passenger seat is manually adjustable in four ways.
But if power-adjustable heated seats draped in leather are what you want, head for the T60 Luxe. There you will also find the personalised ambience of climate control air-conditioning and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror.
Outside, the T60 Pro stands out with 17-inch alloy wheels, (one inch bigger than the cab-chassis), roof rails, dusk-sensing LED headlights, rain-sensing wipers, side steps and exterior mirrors and door handles to match the body colour.
Do you want your T60 to look even more distinctive?
Then head to the T60 Luxe that boasts chromed door handles along with chromed heated and folding exterior mirrors and a sports bar.
And if that's still not enough, the T60 Luxe-based T60 Trailrider, in a limited production run, adds 19-inch alloy wheels with Continental tyres, a lockable roller tonneau cover, black nudge bar, black sports bar, black side steps, black grille and decals. Just 650 units are being built, and the Trailrider features Walkinshaw suspension settings selected specifically for the local market. Pricing is $38,937 drive-away in manual form or $41,042 drive-away for the automatic variant.
All LDV T60 models are powered by the same 2.8-litre, four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine. It produces 110 kilowatts and 340 Nm of torque and in the-cab chassis your only choice is a six-speed manual transmission.
In the dual-cab ute twins, the T60 Pro and T60 Luxe, you have a choice of the six-speed manual or a six-speed automatic.

The T60 Trailrider sure sounds like an appealing package, with its locally-tuned suspension and enough extra kit to justify the extra $5000 over the T60 Luxe. But to me, the one model that really stands out in this range is the dual cab Pro Auto. Come resale time you'll be glad you went for the auto, not to mention it's a more relaxing drive, especially around town. Unless you are carrying long or heavy items, or desire leather trim as in the Pro Luxe, the Pro Auto can do everything the cab-chassis can, but with more comfort, kit and room for five.
