Is it time that Lexus Australia started importing the Lexus GX, a premium version of the Toyota Prado?
The latest GX Off Road Concept, or GXOR, takes the premium Lexus GX 460 – an Audi Q7 rival – and modifies it for serious bush bashing.
And we reckon it might pique the interest of many Aussie buyers.
The concept SUV is hooked up to a custom-made Patriot X1H camper trailer (which is built in Queensland, Australia) and looks more than capable of tackling Australia's top end.
Based on the regular Lexus GX 460, the GXOR is powered by a 4.6-litre petrol V8 (225kW/446Nm) which has enough pepper to tow up to 3000kg.
The GXOR can take the path less travelled thanks to features like Icon suspension with remote reservoirs and billet control arms with delta joints. Chuck in full underbody armor, frame sliders, off-road tyres and a custom front bumper with hidden Warn 9.5 XPS winch, and this is sure to get your adventure juices flowing.
Other features of the Lexus GXOR include a safari snorkel, roof racks with aluminium storage cages and Maxtrax recovery boards, not to mention a 160-Watt solar panel and a rigid 50-inch LED light bar.
There's a specialized brake controller for the jacked-up Patriot camper trailer and an Icom 5100A ham radio.
Oh, there's also a custom drawer system inside the Lexus featuring a National Luna fridge too, perfect to keep your favourite beverages cool.
Usually Lexus SUVs would never be taken off-road but we reckon it would be a tragedy if this machine never got to bathe in a muddy bog or tackle a steep rocky climb.
In Australia, the Japanese luxury car-brand sells several SUVs, including the range-topping Lexus LX 570, along with the RX, NX and UX models ranges.
The importer has no plans to import the Toyota Prado-based Lexus GX at this stage.
