Maserati Ghibli and Quattroporte Trofeo coming

Trio of Maserati V8 models teased ahead of official reveal

The Maserati Ghibli will finally be blessed with V8 power, Italy’s trident brand has confirmed overnight.

And it won’t be just any V8 but probably the same epic 441kW/730Nm twin-turbo 3.8-litre Ferrari-sourced V8 that powers the Maserati Levante Trofeo.

That’s the obvious take-out from the release of a moody teaser image previewing three Maserati Trofeo models ahead of their virtual global premiere on August 10.

Released via Maserati’s Facebook and Twitter channels, the image confirms not only the Ghibli Trofeo and Quattroporte Trofeo, but suggests both sedan models and the Levante SUV will also be facelifted.

Unlike the four-cylinder Maserati Ghibli Hybrid revealed recently, the Ghibli Trofeo is certain to come to Australia, where we expect all three models to be on sale by early 2021.

Like the Levante Trofeo, the V8-powered Ghibli and Quattroporte will also bring significant design and chassis upgrades, including more aggressive bodywork and upgraded, suspension, brakes and interiors.

If the $330,000 Maserati Levante Trofeo is any guide, they’ll also command a handsome price premium over the most expensive existing Ghibli and Quattroporte models.

For the Ghibli Trofeo, expect a sizeable price hike over the top-shelf GranSport V6 ($184,990), while the Quattroporte Trofeo will eclipse the existing V8-powered GTS GranSport and GranLusso ($299,990).
