Mercedes-AMG G 63 2019 Video Review

Rappers and A-list celebrities rejoice! The king of the urban jungle G63 returns with more drama than ever before

The most expensive SUV in the Mercedes-Benz garage looks like a brick on wheels – and in Australia at least, it's sold out until 2020. Yep, the Mercedes-AMG G 63 is a 430kW, $250,000 slab of highly-desirable automobilia, the iconic 1980s design a big part of the allure.

Although it looks like its 1979 predecessor, only the door handles, sun visors and rear wheel cover carryover from the Mercedes-AMG G 63's predecessor, with everything else being new. That means the suspension has been updated, improving the cars on-road manners (which was never going to be challenging because the last one was so agricultural!), the interior is more luxurious and has the latest technology, and the engine? Well, it's completely bananas.

The Mercedes-AMG twin-turbo V8 blasts its battle cry from its side-exit exhaust pipes, which have three volume settings. Loud, very loud, and ear-bleedingly loud. You can take the G-Wagen offroad but most buyers will probably keep this particular model on sealed roads, its optional 22-inch alloy wheels more suited to coastal road blasting and urban cruising than Bush-bashing.
