Mitsubishi ASX gains new safety technology

Facelifted mid-size SUV picks up driver-assist systems, improved infotainment and enhanced refinement

Mitsubishi has announced its ASX for 2018 has been revised, adding a new, safer variant to the range and adopting a suite of primary safety functions.

The new LS ADAS variant splits the two-tier range, being based on the entry-level ASX LS with petrol engine, CVT and front-wheel drive, but with a host of extra features. These are forward collision mitigation, lane departure warning, auto high beam, electro-chromatic rear view mirror and rain sensing wipers. Mitsubishi is charging just $1500 more for this variant than the model on which it's based. These same features are also now standard for the high-grade ASX XLS, which has risen in price by $500 accordingly.

The updated ASX can be identified by revised styling, front and rear, with LED daytime running lights. According to Mitsubishi, the ASX is now quieter inside – by means of a new type of sound insulation material – and the upgraded interior is more functional. The redesigned centre console – now with decorative trim in a geometric pattern of brightwork – features two USB ports and a mobile phone tray with removable padded liner, a new armrest and larger storage receptacle. Mitsubishi has redesigned the CVT shift lever and all models are now equipped with Smartphone link Display Audio and Digital Audio (DAB+).

"Through continuous improvement of one of our most popular SUV models we have seen the ASX sales steadily grow and it is now Australia's best-selling small SUV in 2017," says Mitsubishi Australia's COO, Tony Principe.

"The new ASX continues to evolve in this competitive market place with the introduction of advanced safety features, the latest smartphone connectivity and styling updates to maintain its well-earned position in the small SUV segment."
