Ford has revealed that its all-new, battery-powered Ford Mach 1 SUV will be capable of covering 600km between charges when it goes on sale next year.
Claimed to have been verified under strict WLTP rules, the Ford Mach 1 SUV's range is set to eclipse all of its rivals, including the Tesla Model X.
Ford is still yet to release proper images of its pure-electric SUV, but the use of the famous Ford Mach 1 name and shadowy teasers suggest it will be heavily inspired by its iconic Mustang and even come with performance figures worthy of the Pony car pedigree.
Set to be powered by a lithium-ion battery with an energy density of around 120kWh, the all-wheel drive Ford Mach 1 will be produced at one of the Blue Oval's facilities based in Mexico.
Developed and engineered by Team Edison -- Ford's division dedicated to battery-powered and autonomous vehicles -- the Mach 1 is also set to come with the car-maker's next-generation driver aids.
Following a considerable $11 billion ($A15.6b) investment in the division, Team Edison's small army of engineers are now tasked with 16 new electrified models to market by 2022, including the Mach 1.
Other new electrified Blue Oval models confirmed at Ford of Europe's 'Go Electric' function in Amsterdam overnight include hybrid, mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions of the new Escape/Kuga due here next year, new mild-hybrid Fiesta EcoBoost Hybrid and Focus EcoBoost Hybrid models, a new Tourneo Custom Plug-In Hybrid eight-seat people-mover and a new all-electric Transit van to be launched in 2021.
