The all-new Honda City has been unveiled at this week’s Bangkok motor show, as the model heads into its fifth generation.
Now on sale in Thailand in four variants (S, V, SV and the RS pictured here), the 2020 Honda City light sedan is yet to be confirmed for Australia, where the existing light-size sedan is priced from $15,990.
“It’s too soon to confirm any details for the next-generation City here,” said Honda Australia spokesperson Naomi Rebeschini. “The current City will be with us for some time yet.”
Based on the fourth-generation Honda Jazz hatch revealed in October but also yet to be confirmed for local release, the new City rides on an 11mm shorter wheelbase than the current model yet is claimed to offer more cabin space.
The new Honda City also gets bigger exterior dimensions, sitting just over 100mm longer and 50mm wider than previously, but 10mm lower.
The Japanese car-maker’s smallest sedan continues many of the current City’s styling cues, but inside there’s a new dashboard featuring an 8.0-inch infotainment touch-screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Honda says reduced cabin noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) comes courtesy of extra insulation and a thicker engine firewall.
Power comes from a 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder engine, sending up to 90kW/173Nm to the front wheels via a CVT automatic transmission. Honda says combined fuel consumption of 4.2L/100km can be expected.
The top-spec RS variant pictured here features additional ‘sporty’ extras including LED headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels, a gloss black grille, side mirror indicators and boot-lid spoiler as well as red stitching throughout the cabin.
