New Isuzu MU-X prices and specs leaked

Leaked documents suggest pricing and equipment for all-new seven-seat off-road SUV will both skyrocket

Pricing and specifications for the new 2021 Isuzu MU-X appear to have been leaked on social media, and if the data proves legitimate it will spell sharp increases in price tags and equipment levels for the popular seven-seat off-road SUV.

According to the leaked documents posted to the Isuzu DMAX, MU-X Owners Group Australia Facebook page, pricing for the second-generation Isuzu MU-X will increase by $5000 at base level when it goes on sale from August 2.

Pricing for the outgoing entry-level Isuzu MU-X LS-M 4x2 is currently listed as $43,990 plus on-road costs, according to the brand’s official website, while its all-new replacement will apparently cost $48,990.

However, if the leaked numbers are for drive-away pricing, which includes on-road costs, then the price increases won’t be so dramatic.

But given the price discrepancies between 4x2 and 4x4 variants – $6000 at base LS-M and mid-range LS-U level, and just $3000 at flagship LS-T level – we’d take these prices with a grain of salt.

The leaked documents suggest the MU-X will be priced as follows:

LS-M 4x2 – $48,990
LS-U 4x2 – $54,990
LS-T 4x2 – $60,990

LS-M 4x4 – $54,990
LS-U 4x4 – $59,990
LS-T 4x2 – $63,990

For what it’s worth, when the new-gen Isuzu D-MAX ute – on which the all-new MU-X is based – arrived last year, prices for 4x4 models increased by between $3300 and $6000.

The new Isuzu MU-X has been on sale in Thailand since late 2020, with full Australian pricing and specification details to be confirmed by the Japanese importer (Isuzu Ute Australia) on July 30.

The new model is again expected to be offered in three spec levels (LS-M, LS-U and range-topping LS-T), each with the option of rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive but an automatic transmission standard in all models.

As well as a brand-new design inside and out, the 2022 Isuzu MU-X will get a range of new features and technology from its donor vehicle, the Isuzu D-MAX ute, including new LED headlights and speed sign recognition, along with bigger central touch-screens with improved smartphone connectivity, so price rises are inevitable.

The Isuzu MU-X is the third-best-selling large SUV in Australia behind the Toyota Prado and Kluger juggernauts, but also stands as the nation’s top-selling ute-based SUV ahead of rivals such as the Ford Everest and Mitsubishi Pajero Sport.

The Isuzu M-UX is popular with buyers who tow trailers and caravans, and will be powered by the D-MAX’s upgraded 3.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine (140kW/450Nm), which could see the current model’s 3000kg towing capacity increase.

Furthermore, 4x4 models look set to feature a locking rear differential as standard for the first time, along with a switchable four-wheel drive system and six-speed automatic transmission with a dual-range transfer case.
