This week’s release of four new single-cab variants brings the total number of models in the 2018 Mahindra PikUp range to nine and its starting price to just $21,990 drive-away.
That bargain-basement price applies to the new entry-level single-cab Mahindra PikUp S6 4x2 Cab Chassis, which comes with air-conditioning, projector headlights and steel wheels.
The base S6 PikUp 4x2 single-cab is also available with a Tradie Pack comprising aluminium tray, Bluetooth and cruise control, for $23,990 drive-away.
Also new to the latest 2018 Mahindra PikUp range released last December are higher-spec S10 single-cab versions fitted with 16-inch alloys, a 6.0-inch touch-screen infotainment system with satellite navigation and Bluetooth connectivity, daytime running lights and automatic climate control.
The Mahindra PikUp S10 Single Cab 4x2 with tray is priced at $25,990 drive-away, while the 4x4 version costs $28,990 drive-away.
All 2018 Mahindra PikUp models are powered by a 103kW/330Nm 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel matched with a six-speed manual transmission. An automatic transmission will become available later this year.
The Mahindra PikUp offers 210mm of ground clearance, a 2500kg braked towing capacity and 1200kg payload, with 4x4 versions adding a dual-range transfer case, Eaton mechanical-locking rear differential and hill-descent control.
"Many of our farm and trade customers like our S10 dual-cab but have been wanting those specifications in single-cab," said Russell Thiele, head of Mahindra Automotive in Australia.
"Now with the introduction of S10 4x4 and 4x2 single-cab we are able to offer a truly competitive high-spec ute in the light commercial market."
Brisbane-based Mahindra Automotive Australia has more than 40 dealers nationwide and offers a range of locally sourced genuine accessories for its utilitarian PikUp.
These include aluminium, galvanised steel and colour-coded steel trays, tow kits, suspension upgrades, steel bull bars, bash plates, fiberglass snorkels, canvas seat covers, vinyl floor coverings and carpet floor mats.
The PikUp comes with Mahindra's five-year/100,000km warranty and roadside assistance coverage, while service intervals are now 12 months or 15,000km, but the no-frills Indian ute achieved a sub-standard three-star ANCAP safety rating when it was last tested in 2012.
