Peugeot's outspoken CEO, Jean-Philippe Imparato, has taken to Twitter in response to an online petition that has almost 9000 signatures calling for the French car-maker to push its stunning e-LEGEND coupe concept into production.
Responding to the public outcry that saw 4000 social media users sign the petition in less than four hours, Imparato remarked that if the change.org petition got 500,000 signatures "we really might have to consider it..."
During a round-table discussion with journalists earlier that day, just moments after the e-LEGEND was revealed at the Paris motor show, the Peugeot boss fuelled rumours that momentum is building for the retro-designed coupe to be pushed into production.
If we get to 500,000 we might really have to consider it… #PeugeotELegend @Autonews_frhttps://t.co/hNOzPlZn7w

Imparato that if it was built the 504 coupe-inspired concept would be offered with both petrol and diesel power, as well as the show car's pure-electric powertrain.
Senior Peugeot execs also told motoring.com.au that many of the e-LEGEND's concept's design details had been deliberately toned down to enable a smoother transition from show car to production reality.
However, none of the car-maker's employees would explicitly comment on whether there were plans in place to produce what would be a replacement for the discontinued RCZ coupe.
If made, it's thought the e-LEGEND will be based on PSA's Common Modular Platform (CMP), which has been engineered for both pure-electric powertrains and traditional internal combustion engines.
If it gets the go-ahead, a production version of the e-LEGEND could be on sale by 2023 – although that's two years before the fully autonomous driving aids featured in the concept will be ready.
