Patent images that are claimed to preview the production version of the battery-powered MG E-Motion sports car that's due on sale next year have leaked online.
The detailed renderings show how the Chinese-owned brand's designers have evolved the original 2017 concept into something that, at least from the front three-quarter view, looks like it could sport an Aston Martin badge.
At the rear, like the concept car, MG's final production design features pronounced haunches and design elements that look inspired by the small Peugeot RCZ.
Originally, MG was set to introduce its sporting flagship this year, but the COVID-19 global pandemic is rumoured to have pushed back those plans to 2021.
Back in 2017, the Shanghai motor show concept employed a pair of scissor doors but those are thought to have been dropped for production car.
The showroom version of the MG E-Motion should still be capable of covering up to 500km between charges and hit 100km/h in less than four seconds.
MG's first sports car in almost a decade is being created to inject some sparkle into the Chinese-owned car-maker's existing range of hatchbacks, sedans and SUVs. But it's not yet known whether the SAIC brand plans to export the stylish pure-electric coupe globally, or if it will be limited to the Chinese market.
