Skoda has announced its latest team of apprentice designers and engineers are working on a new radical project that will involve gas-axing the roof off a Scala hatch.
Pictured here in a series of hand-drawn sketches, the seventh student-led project created by the Czech car-maker's apprentices is scheduled to be unveiled this June, says Skoda.
Apart from hacking off the roof, the significant changes over the standard Scala hatch include the switch to two doors and the development of a large seamless rear double-bubble tonneau roof.
A more rakish screen, larger wheels, wider front and rear tracks and the creation of a centre-exit exhaust housed below a new rear bumper complete the big external changes.
Inside, there's a sportier steering wheel and a pair of race seats – hinting that the Scala concept car will produce plenty of power under the bonnet.
Previous Skoda student cars have included a wild Kodiaq-based ute (2019), a Karoq-based convertible (2018), a Citigo-based electric buggy (2017) and a Rapid Spaceback coupe (2016), just to name just a few.
This year's Scala roadster concept is said to have been created by a team of 20 apprentices who will work closely with the car-maker's head designer, Oliver Stefani, at Skoda's Mlada Boleslav HQ.
