Before Ford fettler Roush goes all-out with a wild supercharged V8 version of the all-new Ford F-150 to defend its ‘world’s quickest ute’ title, the US-based hot tuner has launched a Raptor ‘lite’ version.
The Roush-tuned 2021 Ford F-150 gets a number of upgrades over the standard pick-up, starting with specially-tuned Fox 2.0 shock absorbers and springs for the front suspension.
This lifts the front of the 14th-generation Ford F-150 by two inches, and together with 33-inch Grabber A/TX tyres fitted to new 20-inch alloy rims, takes the world’s biggest-selling pick-up to new heights in terms of off-road performance.
While the all-new Ford F-150 is available in Australia through independent conversion companies, such as Performax International, Ford Australia has no plans to bring the F-150 back to its showrooms to stand alongside Australia’s second-best-selling vehicle, the Ford Ranger ute.
This is despite the fact that sales of the RAM 1500, which is converted locally with factory support, are booming in Australia, and that the full-size pick-up truck market will expand further as GM mounts a fresh attack with the Chevrolet Silverado.
The Roush F-150 has a tougher look than the regular model, thanks to significantly wider bolt-on wheel-arches with “integrated accent lights and heat-extracting vents” as well as a new front bumper with a Roush badge that dominates the redesigned grille.
New front brakes featuring six-piston Alcon brake callipers are added, along with an active exhaust system that can be toggled between loud and quiet by a switch in the cabin.
The interior gets a few extra upgrades too, such as a new Roush instrument cluster, unique pedals with rubberised grips “for secure foot control” and custom floor liners by WeatherTech.
The Roush F-150 upgrade is priced from $US16,745 ($A22,000), not including the cost of the vehicle, while the active exhaust adds another $US1850 and the brake package $US2975.
Roush has confirmed it will offer an ‘Extreme’ off-road upgrade later in 2021 that looks set to take the Ford F-150 Raptor to another level altogether, with a rippling supercharged V8 expected to take up residence between the front wheels.
The Ford F-150 is the world’s second-best-selling vehicle of all time behind the Toyota Corolla.
Ford offers plug-in hybrid versions of the new pick-up and will unleash an all-electric Ford F-150 EV in mid-2022, touted as the most powerful F-150 ever made.
