SEMA: Kia shows off faster, wider Stinger

Korean car-maker gives latest Stinger the West Coast Customs treatment -- and more power

Just months after the Stinger went on sale in Australia, Kia Motors America has unveiled two heavily customised versions of its flagship sports sedan at the SEMA modified car show in Las Vegas.

Unveiled late last night and taking pride of place on the show stand was a special wide-body version that was created by famous California-based West Coast Customs.

Claimed to have been inspired by racing GT cars of 1970s, the wider Stinger rides on suspension lowered by 36mm at the font and 31mm at the rear.

Boasting huge 21-inch wheels, the West Coast Stinger also comes with a new carbon-fibre aero kit that include a new rear diffuser.

Inside, there are custom blue leather seats, an Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and a gloss black centre console.

Meantime, the Stinger GT Federation is, perhaps, more relevant to Australian buyers as it's fitted with parts and accessories from aftermarket suppliers in the US.

On the outside, these include a revised rear spoiler, rear diffuser and new bonnet vents.

Under the bonnet a K&N cold-air intake and new sports exhaust is claimed, in total, to boost power of the twin-turbo 3.3-litre V6 to 280kW -- 8kW more than the standard car.

To help improve handling for track use, Kia USA has added stiffer Eibach springs, a thicker anti-roll bar and bigger 20-inch wheel and tyre package.

It's not yet known whether, post-SEMA, any of these performance-enhancing accessories will become available as official dealer-fit parts via Kia Australia.
