Skoda Vision IN concept busts out
European car-maker targets Indian market with budget-priced SUVThe wraps have come off the Skoda Vision IN, a sporty concept that previews a brand-new compact SUV.
Designed and developed exclusively for the Indian market, the new model will be based on a localised version (MQB AO IN) of the small car platform that underpins the Skoda Scala and Volkswagen Polo small hatchbacks.
Two sketches of the sleek new Skoda Vision IN have been revealed, previewing the concept car that will make its worldwide debut at the Auto Expo 2020 in New Delhi on February 5.
Measuring 4260mm long, the sleek new SUV is roughly the same size as the Mazda CX-3 (4275mm).
The five-door, five-seat small SUV features bold visuals at the front-end, with a chunky fascia dominated by a large grille and split-level headlight clusters.
Skoda describes the rear of the Vision IN as 'clearly structured' and 'distinctive' thanks to the Audi-esque LED tail-light designs.
It's not known what engine will power the new model when it makes the transition to a production car.
As India's car market matures, more and more car-makers are adopting unique approaches for the second most populous country on the planet.
Skoda's new INDIA 2.0 project aims to increase the brand's presence in the rapidly growing Indian market by creating bespoke vehicles suited to customer expectations in the sub-continent.
"Several cross-brand Skoda and Volkswagen models will be created based on the MQB A0 IN variant of the Modular Transverse Matrix [platform architecture] which the Czech car manufacturer is developing with a focus on India and Indian customers," says Skoda.
