Toyota hypercar to top $1 million

Japanese giant’s first 'super sports car' may never be seen in Australia

Toyota’s wild Le Mans TS050-inspired hypercar is likely to command a $1 million-plus price tag if it ever makes it to Australia.

And right now, that’s a big if.

“There is certainly no plan afoot right now [to bring it here],” Toyota Australia slaes and marketing chief Sean Hanley told motoring.com.au. “We don’t have a plan.”

Asked if Toyota’s first road-going hypercar would command a million-dollar price, Toyota Australia spokesman Orlando Rodriguez didn’t shy away from the figure.

“It’s probably at that hypercar sort of level,” he said. “Pricing? It’s going to be at that level.”

But Rodriguez made it clear there were few confirmed facts about the exotic limited-edition hypercar.

“We don’t even know when cars will be available, what markets they will go to and where they will be road registerable and where they won’t,” he said.

“Toyota has simply signified the strong intent to make this a road car. So instead of having just two racing cars that go to Le Mans, it’s going to be a productionised model.”

Toyota has made it clear that its as-yet-unnamed hypercar will adopt many of the technologies employed by its Le Mans-winning TS050, which is powered by a circa-735kW biturbo 2.4-litre V6 hybrid powertrain.
