The Toyota LandCruiser is the most likely of any vehicle to last longer than 300,000km according to an American research company iSeeCars.com.
The company analysed more than 15.8 million cars sold last year to determine which models have the highest percentage of reaching 200,000 miles (321,868km).
Coming out on top, and likely unsurprising for some, was Toyota’s LandCruiser 200 Series 4x4 at 15.7 per cent. In second place at 9.2 per cent was the Toyota Sequoia, an even larger Tundra-based SUV that isn’t sold Down Under.
“The iconic and indestructible Toyota LandCruiser is designed to last at least 25 years, and it is relied upon in many developing countries where off-road driving is the norm,” said iSeeCars chief executive Phong Ly.
“Like the LandCruiser, the Toyota Sequoia is built on a truck platform, so it has the durability of a truck and seating for up to eight passengers, making it a capable family hauler that it able to endure high mileage.”
The research also gathered information on each segment, with clear stand-outs in several categories.
Honda’s Odyssey was announced longest-lasting passenger car, ahead of the Toyota Avalon, Honda Civic, Toyota Sienna minivan and Prius, while the Audi TT was found to top the sports car list ahead of the Dodge Charger, Ford Mustang and Mazda MX-5.
Where auto brand names are concerned, Toyota was a clear winner at 1.8 per cent, finishing ahead of Honda (1.6 per cent), GMC (1.4 per cent), Chevrolet (1.4 per cent) and Ford (1.1 per cent).
