Upgraded 2021 Peugeot 3008 and 5008 arrive in Oz

French car-maker’s facelifted mid-size SUVs bring fresh looks and more tech

Peugeot Australia has released a refreshed pair of mid-size SUVs, with the 2021 Peugeot 3008 and 5008 going on sale this week with a host of mid-life updates.

In addition to the entry-level Allure grade priced from $44,990 plus on-road costs (up $1000), the five-seat Peugeot 3008 also brings a sporty new flagship GT Sport grade to top the medium SUV range at $54,990 plus ORCs.

Alongside it is the larger seven-seat 2021 Peugeot 5008, priced from the same $51,990 as before and once again available in a single GT grade with the option of a petrol or, for $8000 extra, a diesel engine.

Both models are based on the same EMP2 platform, fitted with the same four-cylinder petrol and diesel engines and available only in front-wheel drive form.

A 1.6-litre turbo-petrol four does the work in the 3008 Allure and GT, along with the 5008 GT. Paired to a six-speed automatic, it produces 121kW of power and 240Nm of torque.

Peugeot claims the 3008 Allure sips 7.3L/100km on a combined cycle, while the 3008 GT petrol is slightly more efficient at 7.0L/100km.

The 2021 Peugeot 3008 GT Sport uses the same 1.6-litre petrol engine but in a higher tune producing 133kW/250Nm. It’s also mated to an eight-speed auto and is said to consume 5.6L/100km.

As for diesel options, both the 3008 and 5008 GT diesel grades employ a 131kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel, also paired to an eight-speed automatic. Claimed average fuel consumption for diesel-powered variants is just 5.0L/100km.

Only the 3008 GT Sport and GT diesel models (3008 and 5008) come with an engine idle-stop feature.

Updated exterior elements include fresh headlights and new LED tail-lights with sequential indicators and smoked glass lenses for all models, and a new frameless grille with integrated foglights for GT and GT Sport grades.

Inside, every 2021 Peugeot 3008 and 5008 comes with the French brand’s latest i-Cockpit interior, which includes a compact steering wheel that sits below an improved, customisable 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

The central touch-screen is also larger across the range at 10.0 inches, and incorporates navigation, digital radio, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

A revised interior brings new cabin materials for the dashboard and upper door trims, including lime wood and Alcantara, while new toggle switches handle key controls including navigation, climate control and more.

All variants come with a range of safety and driver assistance features, including autonomous emergency braking (AEB) with low-light cyclist and pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, park assist, auto high beam, 360-degree camera, speed sign recognition, handsfree tailgate and electric park brake.

GT grades add gloss black alloy wheels, black diamond roof lining and Alcantara/leather-appointed seat trim.

Meanwhile, the range-topping 3008 GT Sport is headlined by 19-inch ‘Washington’ alloy wheels, electrically-operated driver’s seat with massage function, a premium FOCAL audio system and a ‘Black Pack’ bringing a range of dark exterior bits (badging, rear bumper sill, spoiler trim, lower door trims and more).

The seven-seat Peugeot 5008, priced at $51,990 for the GT petrol or $59,990 in GT diesel form, brings 18- and 19-inch alloy wheels respectively, while both get LED headlights, black diamond headlining, auto-dimming rear-view mirror and Alcantara/leather-appointed trim.
